E-mail Print PDF

ghrandiEgypt, February 7, 2010 ( Pal Telegraph) - Filippo Grandi, the new commissioner-general of UNRWA, met on Sunday with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abu Al-Ghit and discussed the difficult situation in Gaza Strip.

Grandi observed after his meeting that it is important to conduct such talks with Egyptian officials, particularly because of the regional role it plays by mediating with all parties.

Regarding the difficulties he faces with his mission here in Palestine, he added: "We have been dealing with these situations for 6o years, but the most difficult thing we face is movement to and from Gaza." He is especially concerned with the need to import construction materials, which have been prohibited entry by Israel.

Grandi visited Gaza the last week and emphasized the suffering of the people due to their low standard of living.
